Jurors found a Woodstock man not guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl he knew for nearly a decade.
Erik J. Avila-Arredondo was arrested in September 2014 and indicted on four counts of criminal sexual assault, predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, two counts of indecent solicitation of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Avila-Arredondo was acquainted with the alleged victim's mother for nine years, prosecutors said. The 36-year-old, who was out on bond, cried Thursday afternoon as McHenry County Judge Michael Feetterer read each verdict to the court.
The jury began deliberating about 10:30 a.m. Thursday and returned with the verdict shortly before noon.
Francisco J. Botto , Avila-Arredondo's attorney, said the medical evidence and testimony was what he thought was most convincing to the jury.
