WOODSTOCK – Two people were injured and one cited for DUI after an overnight head-on crash near Woodstock that led to a car fire.

At 2:19 a.m. Sunday, members of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 3800 block of Alden Road near Woodstock for the crash involving two cars.

A 1998 Dodge Neon driven by 33-year-old Joseph F. Nootens, of 603 Waters Edge Drive, Apt. C, McHenry, was traveling south on Alden Road, while a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Debbie Ruiz, 21, of Harvard was traveling north.

The Dodge Neon crossed the center line and went into the northbound lane, striking the Cavalier head-on, according to a news release.

After Nootens got out of his car, it caught fire. The flames were extinguished by the Woodstock Fire Protection District.

Both cars had significant front-end damage. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, but were transported to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock and later released. Nootens was charged with driving under the influence, driving in the wrong lane, and driving too fast for conditions.
