CRYSTAL LAKE – Funeral arrangements have been set for a Crystal Lake Marine who died this month in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

Capt. Nathan R. McHone, 29, was one of six Marines who died Jan. 19 in the crash in Helmand province. A visitation is to be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 932 S. McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake. Overflow parking will be available at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1023 McHenry Ave.

McHone's body will be buried at Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Cary. Instead of flowers, the family has asked for donations for the Capt. Nathan R. McHone Memorial Scholarship Fund. Donations can be sent care of Crystal Lake Bank and Trust, 5100 Route 14, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Donations also can be made to the United Services Organizations, 211 Wilson Blvd., Ste. 1200, Arlington, VA 22201 or www.uso.org/donate. Memorials also may be sent to Friends of the Fallen, P.O. Box 2081 Dover Air Force Base, DE 19902.

McHone graduated from Crystal Lake South High School in 2001.

During his service, he earned two Air Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and a NATO Medal.
